The Sesame phone in black and white

Sesame Enable is a smartphone especially targeted to people with manual dexterity impairments that has been designed to be used completely hands-free. Developed by an Israeli startup, this device is actually a modified Nexus 5 powered by Android capable of recognizing voice commands and head gestures.

Users are not required to download anything for the smartphone comes out of the box with the Sesame software already installed. However, because the power button is physical, they may need external assistance to turn it on for the first time. This step needs not be repeated after the first use.

Users can use Sesame to carry out all of the tasks in the phone, including apps,  dialing, sufring the web, playing videogames by moving a cursor with their heads. To unlock and lock the device, they must pronounce the same words the forty thieves of One Thousand and One Nights use to magically open and close the cave where their treasure is hidden: “Open Sesame” and “Close Sesame”.

This system works, for the moment, only in English and on a Nexus 5. Developers are working to make it available in other handheld devices and languages.
