San Francisco’s International Airport unveiled a prototype version of a smartphone app designed to help passengers with vision disabilities navigate through an airport terminal. The app has been developed by the San Francisco Mayor’s Office Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program and Indoo.rs, company leader in indoor navigation.

For the app to work, a series of beacons have been placed throughout the terminal to audibly call out various points of interest, including gate boarding areas, restaurants, and even power outlets.

The prototype version will undergo additional testing before releasing it to the general public.
