The website Media Access Australia assures Facebook is now more accessible than a year ago, particularly, to screen reader users. Notwithstanding, it also warns that despite improvements, the popular social network still remains a complex platform for persons with disabilities and assistive technologies users to access.

According to the site, accessibility features have been improved particularly in three areas: the structure of information for photos, navigation and color contrast. Information about photos in the newsfeed and the time line can be read by a screen reader in a more logical way. In addition, when blind users view an album screen readers can easily announce who is tagged in the photos, if there is a link included and text descriptions under the photos, if available.

Another major improvement is the inclusion of finger gesture navigation. Blind users using the iOS app or the mobile web version will now be able to use double tap and double finger gestures to select buttons or link as well as to interact with other elements on the interface.
