Accessibility review

Vision

Blind users may have a hard time using this device because it lacks a screen reader, and does not allow launching a third party screen reader app. Although it is equipped with a built-in speech feature that announces incoming calls and reads text messages out loud, these features are not enough for these users as they may not able to use this device on their own.

Persons with partial vision, on the other hand, may be able to use this phone with comfort. This model includes a built-in screen magnifier that works in all interfaces and allows users to customize screen brightness as well as the font style and size. Users with sensitiveness to light or color blindness will be able to select a high contrast theme, exchange background and foreground colors, and modify the color of icons.

Hearing

The Nokia Lumia 925 has a Hearing Aid Compatibility Rating of M3 and T3. This means hearing aid or cochlear implant users can connect to the phone either in the microphone or in the t-coil modes. In addition, those who wear Bluetooth-enabled hearing prosthetics will be able to use this device with this technology. The phone is also compatible with Nokia Wireless Loopset LPS-5. For more information about wireless loopsets manufactured by Nokia please, visit the Nokia Accessibility website.

Users with hearing loss will also be able to send text messages or use any chat apps available for Widows Phone devices. As previously mentioned, this handset is equipped with front-side camera, so Deaf users who prefer communicating in sign language will be able to make video calls using applications such as Skype.

Dexterity

Some features included in this device can be helpful to users with mild dexterity disabilities. For example, the multilingual voice command, the hands-free feature and the option to link frequent contacts to the home screen.

However, inserting the SIM card can be nearly impossible to do for some users with dexterity limitations because it requires inserting a special too into a small hole. People with tremors or shaking in the upper limbs may not be able to that on their own. In addition, the device offers no alternative to control the side button features from the display using a stylus.

Comprehension

The Nokia Lumia 925 includes standardized icons and symbols, so it can be suitable for users with certain limited comprehension skills or learning disabilities. Also, icons in the home screen can be pinned or unpinned as desired. Users can also increase or decrease their sizes and limit the number of icons displayed in it.
