El Orange Hi 4G en negro

The Orange Hi 4G is an affordable smartphone designed to provide access to 4G data network at a reasonable price. However, it includes limited accessibility features. In fact, this handset is suitable for Deaf people as well as to users with low vision, limited dexterity and poor comprehension skills.

Manufactured by ZTE, the Orange Hi is a compact device measuring 134.6 x 67.3 x 9.6 mm and weighing 149 grams. It comes with Android v4.4. (KitKat) and a 4.5-inch TFT display with 480x854 pixels resolution (218 ppi).

The handset also includes a primary 5 megapixels camera with autofocus and flash LED, and a secondary VGA camera for videocalls. Regarding connectivity, it provides support for GPS, Bluetooth and Internet connection via Wi-Fi.

Accessibility review

Vision

The Orange Hi is unsuitable for blind users even though it comes with a fairly advanced version of TalkBack. The screen reader does not identify keys on the keyboard so these users will be unable to successfully enter text.

However, it can be quite useful to some users with low vision. It includes a screen magnifier that works very well and a feature to increase the size of the text. Color blind people, on the other hand, may face a few difficulties as this device does not allow reversing background and foreground colors.

Hearing

There isn’t information available about the compatibility of this smartphone with hearing aids and cochlear implants, so Amóvil is unable to recommend it to hearing impaired users who wear either of these devices.

However, it can be quite useful for Deaf users as it includes support for videocalls among other features.

Dexterity

People with poor dexterity skills may be able to use this phone with some comfort. Besides being compact and lightweight, buttons and keys are easy to press.

However, those with very little or no dexterity skills will have difficulties using this device because it does not include a voice recognition system that opens native apps or make phone calls.

Poor comprehension skills

The Orange Hi includes icons and symbols easy to recognize that comply with accessibility standards. It also allows customizing both the phonebook and the home screen to meet user’s needs.
